Your reign between kings...

... or queens, or a king and a queen. In the Kingdom of Annecyn this isn't that important. What is of great value is that a new ruler is needed and before that's resolved you're tasked with taking care of the realm. You will make decisions, get involved in politics... and probably try to deal with the conspiracy that threatens the Realm. Don't screw it up!

The king is dead...

... but it's not "long live the king!" That's not how the things are taken care of in Annecyn. After having to suffer under a callous tyrant, people demanded change. First, the Crown has to share power with a Parliament. Second, there's no inheritance of the throne. Instead, after the death of a monarch, a new one is appointed by the Parliament.

But someone has to take care of the royal duties until the right candidate gets approved. That's where you come in. You're an interrex (or interregina) - a temporal ruler between appointed monarchs. Try to keep the country in the best shape and look after each of the provinces.

Long live the Realm?

The fact the previous ruler entrusted you with the role of interrex before their death means a lot. It's a great honour, placing you in a prestigious position. But it's in first place a responsibility for a country in the time of uncertainty.

You have to ensure everything is in fine shape. That all quarrels are resolved, the Treasury is secure, the army is paid, that sudden incidents are addressed... But the election of a new ruler is taking longer than usually and the waiting causes civil unrest. Maybe you should try to get involved...

Interesting times

The circumstances of the late King's death were a bit unusual, but what happened next presents a real danger to Annecyn. In the result of a unprecedented event the Parliament is rendered partially dysfunctional and needs some time to get back to good shape. And that raises suspicions, civil unrest... Who orchestrated the those events? What is their purpose? Is it safe to try to investigate it?

The kingdom depends on you. Hopefully you're up for the task!

  • Plan your time and moves in a turn-based system.
  • Manage the kingdom - decide on taxes and law. But be careful.your place of residence affects information you get!
  • Talk with people, hear their pleas, resolve disputes.
  • Take part in finding new candidates for the crown.
  • Resolve the mystery of behind-the-scene conspiracy threatening the Realm.

Interregnum is a side project I'm working on. A small strategy game with focus on talking with all the important people. While it's in the development process, I'll try to keep you all updated both with what I've done so far and observations about the development process. Stay tuned!
